San Francisco-based GrubMarket has completed the acquisition of VIP Wholesale, a produce and specialty foods supplier to restaurants and grocery stores in San Diego.
This is GrubMarket’s second Southern California acquisition in 2019 in alignment with its mission to “make fresh and healthy food accessible to everyone.” It works directly with small farmers to supply the freshest products while supporting the economies of local communities.
“VIP Wholesale is an incredibly reputable and longstanding food supplier in the San Diego region. We sincerely look forward to welcoming them into the GrubMarket family, as we have some exciting plans in the works,” said Mike Xu, CEO of GrubMarket.
VIP Wholesale formerly operated as an independent, family-owned food supplier with a portfolio of clients including single-unit restaurants, chain restaurants, traditional markets, grocery stores, schools and large institutional accounts in the San Diego area. Following the acquisition, it will accept SNAP benefits (formerly known as food stamps).
VIP Wholesale will remain headquartered in San Diego and continue to be managed by its current leadership team. Huy Huynh, CEO, has led the company for more than 15 years.
It also now will be able to leverage GrubMarket’s produce supply chain network and utilize its technologies, including the recently launched GWholesaler software suite.
“GrubMarket recognizes the corporate values of VIP Wholesale and shares the same spirit as our team,” Huy said. “They are deeply aligned with our focus on providing maximum value to customers at all times. We look forward to leveraging this new relationship to further expand our business and grow our sales to the next level.”
GrubMarket plans to utilize VIP Wholesale’s expertise and geographical presence to further amplify and grow its existing supply chain capabilities across Southern California.
