Michael Cooper’s grocery career was at a crossroads in early 2018, when the Winn Dixie store he managed for about a decade, closed.
“Yeah, it does make you think twice when stores are closing,” said Cooper, a Daphne resident, who started in the grocery business at age 19, working at a Foodland store in North Alabama.
He’s been in the business 42 years, and managed Daphne’s Winn Dixie for about 10 years.
“We didn’t know (Rouses) was coming at the time,” Cooper said. “But I knew someone would come in here, and Rouses made an offer.”
