New San Diego Location To Mark Aldi’s 1,900th Store

Aldi 1,900th store, San Diego, Kantar

Aldi’s new store in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego that will open June 13 will be the Illinois-based grocer’s 1,900th store in the U.S.

The store is part of a $3.4 billion Aldi investment to expand to 2,500 stores nationwide by the end of 2022.

To celebrate the store opening, Aldi will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 13, at 8 a.m., followed by its popular Golden Ticket giveaway offering gift cards to the first 100 customers. Shoppers can also sample Aldi-exclusive brand foods and enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a year’s supply of Aldi produce.

“The 1,900th store is a significant milestone for Aldi and we’re pleased that the new San Diego store is being recognized,” said Tom Cindel, Moreno Valley group director of operations and logistics. “Growing our national footprint over the last several years has been extremely rewarding as we gain new Aldi fans across the country, including right here in Southern California where we’ve opened 66 new stores since 2016, and plan to open 15 stores in 2019. We’re eager to introduce even more San Diego shoppers to the affordable, fresh and convenient foods Aldi offers every day.”

The new Mira Mesa store layout features expansive refrigeration space to accommodate fresh, healthy and convenient products. Aldi recently expanded its product offerings, making 20 percent of its total selection new. This expansion is part of the company’s aggressive national growth and remodel plan, and it includes a 40 percent increase in its fresh food selection, with many organic, convenient and easy-to-prepare options. Aldi stores also feature open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally friendly building materials. The store will be open daily from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

Aldi is one of the fastest-growing retailers in the U.S., adding 25,000 new jobs in stores, warehouses and offices across the country by the end of 2022. Aldi was named to the Forbes list of “America’s Best Large Employers” five years in a row and was recognized as a 2019 and 2018 Indeed Best Places to Work: Compensation and Benefits.

To make grocery shopping easier for its customers, Aldi launched a partnership with online grocery delivery service Instacart. The service is available at Aldi stores in locations where Instacart currently delivers. Instacart delivers to 6,000 ZIP codes across 38 states and is accessible to 70 percent (82 million) of U.S. households.

Aldi sells frequently purchased grocery and household items, primarily under its exclusive brands. For the eighth year in a row, Aldi was recognized as the value leader among U.S. grocery stores by a Market Force Information survey of U.S. consumers. Aldi also backs up its products with a Twice as Nice Guarantee: replacing the product and offering a full refund.
