For the second year in a row, Rite Aid is offering a sweet incentive for customers receiving annual flu shots. Anyone who visits one of 600 participating pharmacies in California will receive one free scoop of Thrifty Ice Cream when they get their seasonal flu shot. Customers who get immunized against the flu by Sept. 30 can redeem their coupon through Oct. 6 at any location that features a hand-dipped Thrifty Ice Cream counter.
“Getting vaccinated is the easiest and most effective way to protect against the flu and its potentially severe consequences,” says Jocelyn Konrad, EVP, pharmacy and retail operations, Rite Aid. “After last year’s success, we’re excited to bring this promotion back for another flu season to reward customers across the state for getting vaccinated early. The ideal time to get vaccinated is before flu season starts and before the flu begins spreading in your community, so we encourage everyone to stop by their local Rite Aid to get a flu shot today.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone six months and older get a flu shot early to avoid an epidemic. In California, children ages three and older are able to get a flu immunization at a pharmacy. Certain groups of people are at greater risk for complications from the flu, including people with diabetes, pregnant women, adults over 65, children under five, those with asthma and other chronic lung diseases, those with kidney and liver disorders, heart disease patients and those with compromised immune systems.
Flu shots are covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare Part B, and are available during pharmacy hours; no appointment is necessary.
