The homeless in local communities will receive 6,513 pairs of new socks, thanks to Big Ys third annual “Sock-tember” sock collection which ran from Sept. 12 through Oct. 2. Customers were encouraged to donate new socks for the homeless, and Big Y donated a pair for every flu shot given at one of its pharmacies. Socks were also available for purchase in these stores so customers could add to the donations.

Charles L. D’Amour, president and CEO said, “As part of our mission, all of us at Big Y are proud to help those less fortunate in our towns. Whether it be daily donations to local food banks and soup kitchens or our annual sock drive for the homeless, we support our local community.” Since its inception, Big Y has donated close to 15,000 socks to the homeless.

Socks will be distributed to 35 agencies and shelters over the next few weeks.
