Natural Products Expo West was scheduled for March 3-7 in Anaheim, California. The Inspired Home Show was to be held March 14-17 in Chicago, Illinois.
Organizers for Natural Products Expo West issued a statement around 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 2, that a majority of its community want the show but they do not want it now. Organizers say they have listened to the guidance from the community and have postponed the event with the intention to announce a new date by mid-April.
Show officials said they will work with all exhibitors and attendees, especially the entrepreneurs and small businesses for whom they will create a rebate fund of $5M “targeted at their specific needs.”
Fred Linder, group president of New Hope Network, said: “As with all our events, it was the intention here at Expo West in Anaheim to follow official guidance from local authorities and to listen to the voices of the community we serve and support, in order to maximize the health of the industry. Today, it is clear the majority of those voices are saying they want Expo West but not this week. And so we are being guided by that majority in postponing the show. “We will be working closely with all our customers and partners across the industry to identify a new date for the show later in the year and providing the service and support to deliver the connections and experience everyone expects from Expo West and the New Hope Network.”
Officials with the Inspired Home Show 2020 announced around 7 p.m. March 2 that they have canceled this year’s show due to concerns over the spread of the coronavirus.
International Housewares Association President Derek Miller said they had been watching the situation carefully, with the safety and well-being of members of the home and housewares industry being of primary concern.
“The IHA Board of Directors made this decision after consulting with industry constituents including exhibitors and retailers,” Miller said. “In the end, the global nature of our event, combined with the worldwide concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak and ongoing travel restrictions make it impossible for us to hold The Inspired Home Show next week.”
The IHA board and staff will be working over the next several weeks to measure the financial impact on the industry and the association. Once an analysis is complete, additional information regarding exhibitor refunds will be made available.
IHA previously had announced that the International Sourcing Expo, which primarily houses Chinese-based suppliers, would not open in 2020 due to the restrictions on travel between China and the United States.
The Inspired Home Show 2021 is scheduled for March 13-16 at Chicago’s McCormick Place Complex.
