The Oklahoma Grocers Education Foundation, a part of the Oklahoma Grocers Association, will host its 30th annual golf tournament in October.
The goal of the OGEF is to help further education by providing tuition assistance for students in Oklahoma’s food industry. Over the last several years, there has been a significant increase in the number of scholarship applications received and OGEF says it would like to help all students seeking financial assistance.
The tournament is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 5, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. It will be held at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.
In 1990, the Oklahoma Grocers Association established the OGEF to provide scholarships and promote education throughout the food industry in Oklahoma. OGEF is a non-profit, tax-deductible, IRS section 501 (c)(3).
The scholarship program is available to OGA members and runs from December through February each year. From Dec. 1 through Feb. 28, the scholarship application is available for download. An impartial selection committee, made up of educators, selects the winners who are then notified by April 15. Scholarships are for one year; however, winners may reapply in subsequent years as long as they continue to meet eligibility requirements.
Companies can provide an endowed scholarship, through the OGEF program, by making a donation of $10,000 for a $500 annual scholarship, or $15,000 for a $750 annual scholarship.
As of 2020, OGEF has presented a total of 2,027 scholarships totaling $1,410,750.
