Bashas’ Selling Paczki To Support St. Vincent De Paul

Paczki

Arizonans can support local families served by St. Vincent de Paul when they purchase Paczki (“Poonch-kee”) at Bashas’ grocery stores on Fat Tuesday. Bashas’ will donate 10 percent of all Paczki sales on Tuesday, Feb. 16, to St. Vincent de Paul. The funds will help families throughout the state who are served by the nonprofit organization.

Paczki are Polish pastries typically enjoyed on Fat Tuesday. Historically, families would use up the fat, sugar, eggs and fruit in the house, as these items were forbidden during the Lenten season. They’d use these ingredients to make sweet, indulgent pastries called Paczki.

Bashas’ makes Paczki from scratch. Paczki are glazed or sugared, and filled with lemon, raspberry or custard filling. Glazed Paczki with raisins are especially popular.

Take a #PaczkiSelfie and post it on social media for a chance to win a $150 Bashas’ gift card. Be sure to tag Bashas’ Supermarkets on each:

Paczki are on sale at Bashas’ now. Pick up a half-dozen Paczki for $2.99, or an individual Paczek (“Poon-check”) for 75 cents. A coupon for a free dozen Bashas’ donuts will randomly be inserted into the bottom of Paczki boxes; two customers per store will win.

Bashas’ has donated more than $100 million to local charities since 1932.

Fat Tuesday revelers can also find traditional Mardi Gras King Cakes adorned in colors representing faith, power and justice at Bashas’ bakeries, along with strands of beads and a small plastic baby figure, which customers can put into the cakes. According to tradition, whoever gets the piece of the cake with the plastic baby in it will have good luck and earns the moniker of “King for the Day.” They’re also tasked with hosting duties and bringing their own King Cake for next year’s revelry. King Cakes are available at Bashas’ for $5.99 each.
