Doc’s Food Stores celebrated the grand reopening of its extensively remodeled Country Mart store in Glenpool, Oklahoma, with a ribbon-cutting on April 14.

Additionally, Doc’s used the occasion of the store’s reopening to launch its Scan & Go service, which allows shoppers to scan groceries as they shop, pay for their items on their handheld devices and bypass the lines at checkout.

This is the most extensive remodeling project for the 20,000-square-foot Glenpool supermarket since it opened in 1997. The project features upgraded and expanded areas across all store departments.

Among the more significant changes, the produce department has been expanded with a 20-foot multideck case; the meat department features a new case dedicated to specialty items; and the beer and wine department has grown, tripling the space for beer selections to 36 feet.

“Our Glenpool store is new and improved, inside and out, providing an enhanced shopping experience for everything from fresh produce, meat and bakery to everyday grocery needs,” said Jake Shell, center store supervisor at Doc’s Food Stores. “This remodel demonstrates our dedication to the community and allows us to do an even better job delivering the products and service our consumers have come to expect over the past 75 years.”

Betty and Roy “Doc” Brown moved to Bixby, Oklahoma, in January 1946. They partnered with Doc’s uncle to open the Packing House at 10 W. Dawes. Although the grocery store has changed names through the years, most everyone still calls it “Doc’s.”

In 1980, Jim Brown took over the day-to-day operations and became owner; in 2021, Courtney Brown became the president and CEO of Doc’s Food Stores Inc.

This original store changed locations several times through 1999, when it moved into its current location in the Spartan Shopping Center on Memorial Drive, changing its name to Doc’s Country Mart. In 1997 and 2004, Doc’s opened Country Marts in Glenpool and Coweta, respectively. In 2008, Doc’s acquired two Apple Markets in Fairview and Watonga, and Newkirk in 2011; and in 2013 constructed an Apple Market in Oologah. In 2014 and 2015, Doc’s acquired stores in Collinsville and Oilton, naming them JB’s Markets, the company’s first original brands.
