AWG Appoints Carver As First Woman On Board Of Directors

Kansas City, Kansas-based Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc. has appointed Nikki Carver, president and CEO of Super C Mart Inc., to its board of directors. She is the first woman to serve on AWG’s Board in its 95-year history.

Carver replaced Dave Nicholas on the board, who retired earlier this year. He owned Nicholas Supermarkets Inc. and was a board member since 2003.

Carver is the third generation to lead her family-owned business, which has eight locations across southern Oklahoma. The company recently broke ground on its new flagship 17,000-square-foot store in Kingston, Oklahoma.

“We are excited to welcome Nikki to the AWG Board of Directors,” said David Smith, president and CEO of AWG. “She loves the business and has made being an independent grocery retailer her life’s work.”

“Nikki’s appointment to the AWG Board is monumental and an important step in much needed and wanted diversification,” said Barry Queen, chairman of the board of AWG. “Nikki’s leadership and perspective gives voice to the smaller retailers for their continued growth in our competitive environment.”

Carver has a demonstrated history of working in the food and beverage industry. Prior to her current role, she was director of store development and human resources at Super C Mart.

Involved in her local community, Carver serves as a volunteer NYSA soccer coach (U4 girls’ team) and is a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cleveland County. She also supports FFA chapters in nine local public school systems, local school athletic programs and Court Appointed Special Advocates.

“I am honored to have been chosen to serve on AWG’s Board of Directors,” Carver said, “and proud to be the first woman to hold a seat in their 95 years in business. I believe I will bring a fresh perspective to the board and help lead us into the future.”
