Southern Glazer’s EVP Brick Announces Retirement

Miami, Florida-based Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has announced the retirement of Terry Brick, EVP and general manager, effective Dec. 31.

“Terry has been a key part of the Southern Glazer’s team for more than 20 years,” said Wayne E. Chaplin, CEO. “This company has grown because of his incredible skill set and impactful leadership. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”

Brick began his career in the beverage alcohol industry with E&J Gallo Winery in 1984 before joining Romano Bros. Beverage Company in 2000 as its Gallo Division general sales manager. Brick worked at Romano Bros. of Illinois in sales positions of increasing responsibility prior to the company being acquired by Southern Wine & Spirits in 2001, at which time he was named VP, wine and spirits. Brick has been a part of the Southern Glazer’s of Illinois team for 21 years, and prior to his most current role, served as its VP, general manager.

“Terry has made a tremendous positive impact on the company and all who worked with him throughout his career,” said Mike McLaughlin, president, central region, Southern Glazer’s. “His industry experience and guidance have been instrumental in building Southern Glazer’s business in Illinois and beyond. We will miss him greatly and wish him a wonderful retirement.”

Succeeding Brick as EVP and general manager, Illinois, and reporting to McLaughlin will be Michael Thompson, effective Oct. 1. Until Brick’s retirement at the end of the year, he and Thompson will both work together to ensure a transition of responsibilities.

Thompson began his 30-year career in the beverage alcohol industry with E&J Gallo Winery in 1990 before joining Romano Bros. Beverage Company in 1992 as an area manager. He then held multiple roles of increasing responsibility at Millenium Brands and Millenium Imports before joining Southern Wine & Spirits in 2005 as general manager, signature wine and spirits. Since that time, Thompson has held a series of leadership roles at Southern Glazer’s culminating in his most recent role as EVP and general manager, Indiana.

Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits is a multi-generational, family-owned company. The company has operations in 44 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and Canada. In 2022, Southern Glazer’s was listed as one of Forbes Best Employers for Diversity. In 2021, it was selected as a U.S. Best Managed Company by Deloitte Private and The Wall Street Journal, as well as named by Newsweek as a Top 100 Most Loved Workplace.
