Weis Markets and Kellogg Company have announced a donation of $20,000 and a truckload of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania. The gift is part of the retailer’s annual Fight Hunger program.

“As a company that’s committed to the communities we serve, it’s incredibly special for us to be able to help make life better for our neighbors and customers,” said Ron Bonacci, VP, marketing and advertising, Weis Markets. “We are truly grateful for partners like Kellogg who share our commitment to fighting hunger in the community.”

Weis and Kellogg are making the donation on behalf of Feeding America, a domestic hunger-relief organization in the U.S. Kellogg is also giving 350 books to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

“We’re proud to partner with Weis Markets and Feeding America to help feed families and people in need in Pennsylvania,” said Cindy Merkel, director, team sales – Grocery East, Kellogg Company. “Through Kellogg’s Better Days, our promise to advance sustainable and equitable access to food, Kellogg shares Weis’s commitment to feed and fulfill those in need and positively impact our communities.”

Since 2008, Weis Markets and its customers have donated more than $5 million to local food banks in the retailer’s seven-state market area as part of its Fight Hunger program.

“Community partnerships enable us to continue the critical work of feeding families in the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania,” said Allison Czapp, associate executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank.

“Second Harvest has seen a massive increase in need this year as prices go up and affording groceries becomes more difficult for families. We are so thankful for the support of Kellogg Company and our longtime partner, Weis Markets.”
