Hornbacher’s Launches EBT SNAP Acceptance For Delivery

Hornbacher's

Fargo, North Dakota-based Hornbacher’s will accept EBT SNAP for same-day delivery and curbside pickup orders placed through Instacart.

With this program, EBT SNAP participants will be able to use their benefits to access fresh food and pantry staples online from Hornbacher’s eight locations across the Fargo-Moorhead market.

This launch follows the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service’s recent approval of Hornbacher’s to accept EBT SNAP payments online through Instacart. With transportation often serving as a barrier to the grocery store, Hornbacher’s and Instacart hope to make accessing food easier for customers.

“We are pleased to finally have this program available as part of our online shopping platform, allowing our guests to use their EBT cards to make purchases and have faster access to fresh and nutritious foods through our home delivery or free store pick up service. It is an important part of our ongoing commitment to provide fresh foods and best-in-class service to our guests,” said Matt Leiseth, president of Hornbacher’s.

Where available, EBT SNAP participants will be able to shop from Hornbacher’s via the Instacart website and mobile app. Once a customer profile is created, customers can enter their EBT food card information as a form of payment in their profile. Customers will need a secondary form of payment for non-food items such as taxes, tips and fees per federal SNAP guidelines.

Customers can enter their zip code to determine if they are near a participating retailer and begin shopping and selecting items from retailers’ EBT-eligible products. Once items are added to their cart, customers will be able to select how much of their benefits they would like to allocate to the order. Orders for delivery and pickup can be placed by customers in as fast as an hour or scheduled several days in advance.

Founded in 1951, Hornbacher’s is a longtime member of the Fargo-Moorhead community and serves its communities through charitable, educational and nonprofit events.
