Hannaford Supermarkets has reached an agreement to purchase Community Pharmacy in Blue Hill, Maine.

The pharmacy, which is located inside the new Hannaford store formerly operated as Tradewinds Marketplace, will begin serving customers under the Hannaford banner.

Community Pharmacy in Blue Hill will close at 2 p.m. on June 10. Hannaford will reopen the pharmacy at 8 a.m. on June 12.

Hannaford is purchasing the business from Joe Bruno, owner of Community Pharmacies, which has served customers from its location in Blue Hill for 17 years. Bruno will retain ownership of Community Pharmacies’ eight other locations. Community Pharmacies began operations in 1998.

“All of us at Community Pharmacies want to express our gratitude to the Blue Hill customers who have sustained us for nearly two decades, as well as the incredible pharmacy team who have shared their knowledge and expertise with the community,” Bruno said. “We trust that Hannaford will continue to provide the superior level of care and service that our customers have come to expect.”

The Blue Hill pharmacy will be open the same hours as previously: from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The pharmacy is closed on Sundays.

Hannaford’s in-store pharmacies provide an affordable solution to maintain good health for families, including pets, with healthcare professionals available to answer questions. The Blue Hill pharmacy will have seven employees, all of whom will make the transition from the Community Pharmacy team to Hannaford.

“We’ve received such a warm welcome from the Blue Hill community and are excited to extend the Hannaford experience to the pharmacy, where customers will continue to receive compassionate care and personalized service from the trusted health professionals who have helped them maintain good health over the years,” said Patrick Doak, store manager.

“Our skilled and knowledgeable pharmacy staff, many of whom customers will be familiar with from Community Pharmacy, are committed to ensuring a seamless and positive transition.”

Hannaford pharmacies offer same-day delivery, curbside pickup and mailing for prescriptions, as well as easy and convenient refills. Immunizations for COVID-19, flu, shingles and pneumonia, amongst others, are available and can be scheduled in advance online.

Customers can download the Hannaford RX app to find pharmacy locations closest to them; manage their medications and refill prescriptions. Hannaford pharmacies accept most third-party insurance plans. For more information about Hannaford pharmacies, visit Hannaford.com/Pharmacy.

The Blue Hill Community Pharmacy acquisition follows the formal opening of Hannaford’s newest store in Blue Hill, which the retailer purchased from the owners of Tradewinds Marketplace earlier this year.

Hannaford Supermarkets was founded in Portland in 1883 and is headquartered in Scarborough, Maine. Hannaford has provided pharmacy services to the community since 1984. For more information about the Blue Hill Hannaford, visit Hannaford.com.
