In honor of its 100th anniversary celebrations, Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based The Giant Co. employees joined Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank to volunteer and donate $100,000 to its Weekender Program, expanding food access for children in need across Berks and Schuylkill counties.

“For nearly 100 years, The Giant Co. has been a purpose-led team that strives to connect families for a better future,” said Dave Liptok, regional director, The Giant Co. and Helping Harvest board member.

“Food security is essential to this work. We believe everyone, especially children, should have access to food. We are so proud to support Helping Harvest’s Weekender Program as part of our 100th anniversary celebrations, which will help ensure young minds have access to the nutrients they need to grow and thrive.”

Since 2021, The Giant Co. has donated more than $260,000 and 50,000 pounds of protein to support Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank’s food security initiatives. Its Weekender Program, which operates year-round, provides food bags to kids to help fill weekend meal gaps.

“Helping Harvest is committed to meeting the nutritional needs of children in Berks and Schuylkill counties during their peak brain and body development years,” said Jay Worrall, president.

“This donation will help provide more than 9,000 bags of food to be distributed to preschool and elementary children, designed to replace food that those kids would normally have received at school. We are so grateful to The Giant Co. for supporting this important program.”

The donation is part of the company’s 100th anniversary celebration efforts, which honors team members, customers and the communities it serves. Building on its century-long commitment to grow strong, healthy communities, philanthropy is a cornerstone of the anniversary celebration.

It is building its legacy by making donations and participating in volunteer activities aligned with its purpose of connecting families for a better future through efforts to eliminate hunger, change children’s lives, heal the planet, promote well-being and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging.
