Inserra Supermarkets presented Michael Burton, CEO of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, with a $109,356 check presentation Aug. 20 at its ShopRite of Metro Plaza Jersey City.
All of Inserra’s family-owned and -operated company stores raised $54,678 during the company’s June “Dollars Against Diabetes” (DAD) fundraiser. The Inserra Family Foundation provided a matching grant so $109,356 will be donated to support research for a cure at the Diabetes Research Institute.
The DRIF awarded a special trophy to ShopRite of Jersey City in recognition of the store’s first-place $10,470 in the 2024 DRIF Fundraising Program.
Established in 1954 by Patsy Inserra, Inserra Supermarkets provides volunteer and financial support to fund research for the cure for many chronic illnesses, including leukemia, pediatric cancer, diabetes and multiple sclerosis. A partner to the communities it serves, Inserra Supermarkets also supports local organizations, including food pantries, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups, community wellness programs and local chapters of civic and veterans groups.
In New Jersey, Inserra Supermarkets 18 ShopRites are located in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic Counties, and in New York, 5 stores are located in Rockland County. The Inserra Family also owns and operates two PriceRite Marketplace stores in Garfield and Paterson, New Jersey.
The Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) and Foundation were created for one reason: to cure diabetes, which is the singular focus of the organization until the goal is reached. As one of the largest and most comprehensive research centers dedicated to curing diabetes, the DRI is working to restore natural insulin production and normalize blood sugar levels without imposing other risks. Funding provided by the foundation is the driving force that allows DRI scientists to pursue new and innovative ideas, and to bring these discoveries to patients.
