Gordon Family

Gordon Food Service started out as a butter-and-egg delivery business more than a century ago. Today, the company is the largest family-owned and managed broadline food service distributors in North America — and one of the largest privately held companies in the U.S.
Gordon Food Service has weathered a lot of changes since its start in 1897. The company even instituted a fair number of them, leading the industry into many new and more efficient ways of doing business as a food service distributor .
But corporate values remain the same as those of the 23-year-old entrepreneur who started it all: hard work, reliability, and integrity are the business practices that really matter.
Gordon Food Service distributes to food service operators within the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast regions of the U.S. coast-to-coast in Canada. The company continued to expand into the Northeast with the acquisition of Perkins in 2012.
Gordon Food Service also operates more than 155 Marketplace retail stores in the U.S., which are open to the public and provide the benefits of restaurant-quality products and friendly, knowledgeable service without a membership fee.
There are currently four Gordon-family members involved in the leadership of the company. They represent both the third generation of the Gordon family with John Gordon Sr. as vice-chairman emeritus, and the fourth generation with Dan Gordon, chairman of the board, John Gordon Jr., secretary/treasurer, and myself as chief executive officer. Kara Gordon-Warren, the company’s eBusiness director, represents the fifth generation of the Gordon family.
