During the first half of 2023, Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford Supermarkets welcomed a new store in its eastern footprint and completed upgrades at six locations.

Opened in May, the store in Blue Hill, Maine, is the grocer’s 186th overall. It includes a variety of features designed to enhance the shopping experience, including an expansive selection of signature fresh food and a full-service pharmacy.

The six remodels at stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont were finished between March and June. The projects focused on convenience, including the addition of 24 self-checkout registers and installing five private pharmacy consultation rooms.

“The opening of our Blue Hill store marks an exciting moment for Hannaford, and we are grateful for the warm welcome and support we have received from the community,” said Todd Bullen, VP of retail operations.

“These projects support Hannaford’s commitment to delivering fresh, high-quality food, dependable value and exceptional service to our customers. We thank the many associates who supported this work, and look forward to continuing to enhance the shopping experience of our customers.”

The upgraded Hannaford stores and their features include:

  • Winthrop, Maine – produce section doubled to include more fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Lunenburg, Massachusetts – added a pharmacy, which has a private room for immunizations and consultations.
  • Leominster, Massachusetts – larger produce section, meat and seafood department and four additional self-checkout registers.
  • Uxbridge, Massachusetts – expanded deli department with an array of cheeses and grab-and-go options.
  • Derry, New Hampshire – more fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, as well as new drink options, such as kombucha, juices and smoothies.
  • South Burlington, Vermont – more local producers, as well as soy and vegan products.

In recognition of the Blue Hill store opening and each remodel, Hannaford made donations totaling $27,000 to local nonprofits.
