Price Chopper Helps To Raise More Than 145K Meals For Harvesters

Price Chopper, along with local NBC affiliate 41 Action News and Harvesters-The Community Food Network, raised more than 145,000 meals for local food banks during its annual Fill the Fridge perishable food drive.

Fill the Fridge is the Greater Kansas City’s original and largest perishable food drive. For the fourth year in a row, Price Chopper hosted Fill the Fridge at different store every day from Sept. 1-5 to collect fresh, perishable items that will be distributed to Harvesters’ large network of local food banks. Within days, the fresh food is in the hands of families who otherwise would be at risk for going hungry.price chopper 2

Fill the Fridge is unique because it collects items such as milk, cheese, produce and deli meats. These are items that are staples in most households. Yet food banks never receive enough to support the number of families they serve—meaning families oftentimes go without.

The total meals came from onsite food donations and cash donations. With the help of Unilever and the Scripps foundation, the food drive recorded an additional $35,000 in cash donations, which translates to 105,000 meals.
