Fareway Stores recently partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to host the Fareway MDA Golf Classic at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City. The fifth annual event helped raise $57,700 for MDA to fund research, provide healthcare services and support MDA families.
“We have a long-standing history of support to MDA that dates back over 20 years,” said Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer. “This event showcases the work of MDA, which assists families living with neuromuscular diseases, while raising funds to help find a cure. We’re proud to be a supporting partner in the work to end muscular dystrophy.”
Added Tom Laven, direct store delivery director and event coordinator, “We’re committed to providing the necessary resources for MDA patients—they have a family in Fareway that is cheering them on as they work daily to fight this disease.”
The event provided vendor retailers throughout the Midwest with the opportunity to sponsor and host teams of golfers to further fundraise for MDA and this was a record-breaking year with more teams and donations than ever before. The golf outing was presented by Dr Pepper Snapple Group, with PepsiCo as a Golfer Gift sponsor. A silent auction and presentation concluded the outing.
“I want to thank Fareway and their vendors for their generous support of MDA,” said Danielle Etter, director of business development with MDA. “Not only will the funds raised provide critical assistance in finding a cure, but they provide hope to our families that live with this disease every day.”
Haile Frahm, MDA patient, said, “Attitude, confidence, determination and comedic relief go a long way in helping me get through every day.
Another MDA patient, Rob Roozeboom, said, “Support, like what we receive from Fareway, gives hope in finding a cure and helps us live our lives.”
