For the first time in more than 20 years, a new Nutrition Facts label was unveiled on May 20. For the Nutrition Facts Panel, manufacturers have two years to comply.

This latest update accompanies many other labeling requirements that will impact package design—including GMO disclosure, health claims, natural claims, agency-specific labeling, vending labeling and more. In an effort to navigate the labeling landscape for food manufacturers, SNAC International (formerly the Snack Food Association) and Food Directions are offering the Label-Con Workshop, Nov. 17-18, at the Sheraton, Baltimore Washington Airport.

“No matter what type of food you produce, the numerous upcoming labeling requirements have created a high-pressure regulatory environment that the entire food industry must move quickly to comply with,” said Tom Dempsey, president and CEO of SNAC International.

The one-and-a-half-day workshop aims to answer compliance and implementation questions for technical staff, labeling compliance staff, regulatory personnel, marketing personnel and purchasing departments of food manufacturers.

“It is absolutely essential that you start planning now to ensure you meet compliance deadlines,” Dempsey said. “Expert speakers and legal counsel from the FDA, USDA and other industry leaders at the 2016 Label-Con Workshop will help you navigate the many labeling challenges your company is facing over the next three years.”

From interactive discussions to hands-on labeling case studies, industry experts will be able to answer all labeling regulation questions. Topics to be covered will include FDA labeling, USDA labeling, quality/expiration dates and communicating to the consumers. The workshop is free for SNAC International members and $895 for non-members.
