Crane Appointed VP Of Corporate Logistics At Supervalu


Supervalu Inc. has appointed Barry Crane as VP of corporate logistics. Crane will report to Janel Haugarth, EVP and president of independent business and supply chain, and will have responsibility for the centrally-led functions of transportation, distribution operations, risk management, operational analysis, industrial engineering and advantage logistics.

“This role is vital in driving Supervalu’s efforts to develop and manage a best-in-class distribution and transportation network that meets the needs of Supervalu customers,” said Haugarth. “Barry has extensive logistics experience that we are confident will help drive our focus on continuous improvements to quality, productivity, cost reduction and overall performance.”

Crane joins Supervalu after serving most recently as VP of global distribution and logistics at The Talbots. Prior to that, he has held positions with Trans World Entertainment, Walmart and Federal Express.

Supervalu is one of the largest grocery wholesalers and retailers in the U.S. with annual sales of approximately $17 billion. It serves customers across the U.S. through a network of approximately 3,420 stores, composed of 1,900 independent stores serviced primarily by the company’s food distribution business; 1,331 Save-A-Lot stores, of which 950 are operated by licensee owners; and 191 traditional retail grocery stores. Headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minn., Supervalu has approximately 35,000 employees.
