California’s Vallarta Supermarkets will present a check to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) at 11 a.m. Pacific time today at the Vallarta store at 4831 Butler Ave. in Fresno.
Each year, the Vallarta chain dedicates one full month to allow customers and visitors to make donations to the MDA; cashiers invite customers to donate at the check-stands. The campaign also involves weekly updates on store performances and full MDA decor at the front-end of the stores with signed MDA mobiles. All funds raised at the end of the fundraiser are disbursed to the local MDA chapters based on store locations.
The MDA uses raised funds in three specific areas—for MDA Summer Camp and MDA research as well as to provide assistance to MDA families.
This year, amongst all 44 Vallarta locations, the grocer raised a total of $143,556.79. The top-raising location this year was the Fresno store, which alone raised $16,535.83 in the 30 days.
