New Seasons Unveils Plans For New Store At Public Market In California

New Seasons Market

New Seasons Market, a Portland, Oregon-based independent grocer, has plans to occupy a 35,000-s.f. store with a parking structure as part of the Public Market Emeryville development in Emeryville, California. New Seasons will be an anchor to the 14.5-acre mixed-use site, which includes the Public Market Food Hall, restaurants, retail, offices and housing. The new store will generate more than 100 new jobs when it opens in the second half of 2017.

New Seasons is known for its commitment to organics, community, local sourcing, sustainability and its friendly staff, said City Center Realty Partners LLC (CCRP) and its partner, Angelo Gordon & Co. (AG), owner of Public Market. New Season’s addition to the Emeryville community comes as the Public Market is undergoing a renovation. Upcoming developments include more than 450 units of housing, an additional 43,000 s.f. of restaurants and retail space, street upgrades and an expansion of a nearby park.

“We’re excited for New Seasons to join what’s shaping into a vibrant new downtown for Emeryville,” said CCRP’s co-founder Mark Stefan. “With its local produce, organic artisan breads, sustainably sourced meats and seafood, deli selections and chef-prepared specialties alongside everyday classic brands, New Seasons really meets the needs people seek today for fresh, high-quality products served by a knowledgeable staff. We’re sure that, like the Public Market’s Food Hall, New Seasons Market will become a beloved neighborhood gem.”

“New Seasons is delighted to become a part of the Public Market Emeryville neighborhood, bringing our unique grocery shopping experience to this community,” added New Seasons Market Head of Store Development Jerry Chevassus. “We look forward to making our store a welcoming gathering spot where people meet our friendly, knowledgeable staff, connect over fresh, delicious food and build community together.”

New Seasons Market has 17 stores in Oregon and southwest Washington, one recently opened store in San Jose and five Northern California New Leaf Community Markets. Its stores offer an array of local, organic produce, humanely raised meats from animals fed or finished on a non-GMO diet, sustainably harvested seafood, Oregon Tilth Certified Organic artisan breads and freshly prepared foods. The company also is involved in the community and gives back 10 percent of after-tax profits to local nonprofits and community organizations. As a result of its mission-driven approach, New Seasons says it is the first grocer in the world to become a certified B Corporation in recognition of its commitment to using the power of its business to take care of its staff, its communities and the environment.
