WinCo Foods LLC, an employee-owned discount grocery chain, will open two new discount supermarkets on Thursday, Oct. 22. The stores are located at 21900 Highway 99 in Edmonds, Washington, and at 555 Grand Ave. in San Marcos, California. The stores are traditionally sized for WinCo, with Edmonds measuring approximately 87,000 s.f. and San Marcos coming in at approximately 91,500 s.f. According to the company, each reflects a simple decor package that creates a solid, clean feel and keeps the focus on WinCo’s products and great pricing.
Store Manager Dave Kamrath (Edmonds) comes to the store with years of retail experience, including the past two years with WinCo. Store Manager Kerrie Olson (San Marcos) has nearly 30 years of experience in the grocery industry, the last three-plus years with WinCo. Both managers and their teams are excited about their respective store openings and are particularly pleased with the quality and enthusiasm of the employees that were hired in each location, said the company. Edmonds has hired approximately 150 new employees from the community, and in San Marcos, nearly 165 new employee positions have been filled locally.
Each store features WinCo’s “Wall of Values” at the entry, which includes special low pricing on a variety of popular items. The main sales floor encompasses a large fresh produce and bulk foods department together with meat, seafood, deli and bakery service departments. The bulk foods department displays more than 900 items, including many natural food products, some organics, snacks, candies, cereals, flours, pastas and spices.
Founded in 1967 in Boise, Idaho, WinCo employs more than 15,000 individuals and operates 104 stores and five distribution centers in the states of Washington, Idaho, Nevada, California, Oregon, Utah, Arizona and Texas.
