Cake decorator Amanda Hansen of the Coborn’s store in Sartell, Minnesota, will appear on Food Network’s “Cake Wars” at 9 p.m. (Eastern) today, Jan. 18.
According to the Cake Wars website, the episode is described as a Dr. Suess theme: “Everyone from the Cat in the Hat to Thing 1 and Thing 2 are coming to Cake Wars for a huge Dr. Seuss celebration in honor of the new book ‘What Pet Should I Get?’ Only one master cake artist will have their creation at the center of the party and walk away with $10,000, but to win, they’ll have to impress guest judge Susan Brandt, president of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, and work faster than you can say ‘one cake, two cake, red cake blue cake!’”
Hansen is assisting Sarah Watts, owner of Sugar Mama’s Sweets in Gainesville, Florida. The two met in 2014 when they were among the top three winners of the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association’s (IDDBA) 19th Annual Cake Decorating Challenge.
Hansen has been a cake decorator at Coborn’s for 10 years and is fully self taught. She holds a liberal arts degree in human services from the University of Minnesota, Morris.
St. Cloud-based Coborn’s operates 54 supermarkets across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin under the Coborn’s, Cash Wise Foods and Save-A-Lot banners.
