N.G.A. Names New Manager of Government Affairs

The National Grocers Association (N.G.A.) has appointed Brian D. Callahan as the manager of government affairs.

The National Grocers Association (N.G.A.) has appointed Brian D. Callahan as the manager of government affairs. His role at N.G.A. will primarily focus on key issues that impact independent grocers in the areas of employment/labor, food safety, transportation and SNAP/WIC.

“I am pleased to welcome Brian to the N.G.A. staff,” said Peter Larkin, president and CEO of N.G.A. “His solid background in politics, legislative and regulatory policy will be very beneficial to N.G.A.’s independent retailers and wholesalers nationwide. We are confident that he will be a valuable asset to our Government Affairs team and will have an immediate, positive effect on our efforts on Capitol Hill.”

Callahan joins N.G.A. after most recently consulting on international trade, state level human resource and labor issues. Prior to that he worked for the American Bakers Association (ABA) where he served as manager, federal government relations covering healthcare, labor and transportation issues. Callahan was also responsible for coordinating efforts to defeat the Employee Free Choice Act. Before his time at the ABA he worked for Senator John Sununu (New Hampshire) in various capacities including work on environment, energy and transportation issues.

Callahan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire.
