Kraft Cutting 1,600 Jobs

Northfield, Ill.-based Kraft Foods Inc. plans to cut about 1,600 jobs in North America as it splits into two separate companies, reports the Memphis Business Journal.

The Journal reports the 1,600 jobs represent about 1.3 percent of the company’s workforce. Kraft has about 127,000 employees, including about 46,500 in North America. Forty percent of the jobs being eliminated will be in sales and 20 percent are positions that are not currently filled. The cuts do not include any jobs at manufacturing facilities.

Kraft, the largest North American packaged food company, announced plans to break up in August, according to Reuters. Chief Executive Irene Rosenfield will lead the snacks business and North America President Anthony Vernon will serve as CEO of the North American grocery business.
