The Rio Grande Community Development Corp. will launch its latest economic development project—Delicious New Mexico—on Sept. 11. Delicious New Mexico was created as a vehicle to help local food entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses and create jobs. Delicious New Mexico is a brand and membership organization that will provide support, networking and education to grow and nurture existing small food businesses in the state, connect those small business owners to each other, provide resources and tools for food entrepreneurs to launch their businesses, and connect existing business members to larger markets. The outcome is to build the most respected and recognized brand for authentic, locally produced food in New Mexico, according to a news release.

“A network that focuses on our New Mexico value-added food producers will help strengthen our local economy and build small, strong businesses all over the state. This is a great way to showcase the best of New Mexico’s great foods,” said Terry Brunner, New Mexico USDA Rural Development state director.

Funding for Delicious New Mexico comes from Citi Community Development.

“Citi believes in the economic boost that this network can bring to the state of New Mexico and we’re proud to support it,” said Melissa Briggs, New Mexico state director for Citi Community Development. “Our hope is that it can be scaled and replicated as a model for organizations in other markets so that we can continue to empower entrepreneurs to work together, grow their businesses and generate jobs in their communities.”

Other local sponsors of Delicious New Mexico include: Bueno Foods, Ben E. Keith Foods, Fiery Foods Festival, Mid-Region Council of Governments, and Hyatt Regency Downtown Albuquerque.

The launch of Delicious New Mexico will be held at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Albuquerque from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. The event is free, with light appetizers and cash bar available.
