Stater Bros. Supermarkets’ 27 Super Rx Pharmacies throughout Southern California on Nov. 1 began offering free antibiotics based on a 14-day eligible quantity. This includes refills to anyone with or without health insurance coverage who presents a prescription.

Five different classes of antibiotics are available, including:

• Amoxicillin (Generic for Amoxil);

• Ampicillin;

• Ciprofloxacin (Generic fro Cipro);

• Penicillin; and

• Trimeth/Sulfa (Generic for Septra or Bactrim).

“Stater Bros. believes in doing the right thing for the right reason,” said Jack H. Brown, Stater Bros. chairman and CEO. “As the only supermarket chain in Southern California to offer this program free of charge, Stater Bros. is doing all that we can to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare to each and every one of our valued customers.”

In 2010, Stater Bros. Super Rx Pharmacy introduced its free diabetic medication program, which offers some of the most popular type 2 diabetes medications to customers with a valid prescription from their doctor. In addition, Stater Bros. Super Rx Pharmacy continues its $4 Generic Prescription Program; more than 300 commonly prescribed medications are $4 for a 30-day supply or $10 for a 90-day supply.

Stater Bros. kicks off holiday food drive for needy

In other Stater Bros. Supermarkets news, the San Bernardino-based company, in conjunction with its charitable arm—Stater Bros. Charities—is “harvesting hope” in Southern California communities.  The 4thannual “Harvesting Hope in our Community” program will provide food and funding throughout November and December to assist with hunger relief efforts in the communities where Stater Bros. customers and employees live and work.

• Stater Bros. Charities will present more than $450,000 in cash donations to more than 100 Southern California food banks and self-help organizations. These funds were collected during the course of the year through the Stater Bros. Charities’ Customers Care Program. Customers and employees participate in the year-round program by donating their loose change or by purchasing scannable donation cards while paying for their groceries at the check stand.

• All 167 Stater Bros. Supermarkets have food barrels in place to collect nonperishable food items for struggling families.

• All 167 Stater Bros. Supermarkets are accepting additional cash donations at each check stand for allocation to food banks in the summer of 2013 when food reserves are traditionally low. Customers can donate loose change in the Harvesting Hope donation canisters or purchase $10 Harvesting Hope scannable donation cards.

“Many of our hard working customers have exhausted their resources and are being forced to get extra help this holiday season,” said Brown. “Stater Bros. is going to help in the best way we know how by keeping our prices low and helping our food banks get a big boost for the holiday season.”

The Stater Bros. Harvesting Hope in our Community campaign kicks off the company’s year-long efforts to support nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves.

Each year, Stater Bros. and Stater Bros. Charities contribute more than $15 million to assist those in need, with an emphasis on worthy programs that benefit hunger relief, children’s services, veterans care, education and the elderly. Stater Bros. also donates more than three million pounds of food annually to the local food banks.

“During these tough times…we will not let our customers stand alone,” said Brown.
