Burns Out At Food Lion As Delhaize Makes Exec, Organizational Changes

Cathy Green Burns

Cathy Green Burns, who rose from supermarket bagger to lead Food Lion has been replaced. As the Charlotte Business Journal reports, Delhaize America CEO Roland Smith announced the shakeup to local employees Thursday with Beth Newlands Campbell, former president of Hannaford Supermarkets, taking over as president of both Food Lion and Harveys.

Burns had led Food Lion, based in Salisbury, N.C., since February 2010. She had started as a bagger at a Hannaford store while in high school. She rose to VP at Hannaford before joining Food Lion in 2002 after Food Lion bought the smaller chain of stores.

Burns was replaced as a part of a Delhaize America reorganization designed to “improve results across the organization,” Smith says in a company news release. He’s based at the Food Lion headquarters in Salisbury.

Other changes at Delhaize America include:

• Mike Vail, former president of Sweetbay Supermarkets, assumes the role of chief supply chain officer at Delhaize America;

• Brad Wise, former SVP of human resources at Delhaize America, takes the role of president of Hannaford and Sweetbay;

• Greg Amoroso, former SVP of business service center and sustainability, is the new CFO of Delhaize America; and

• David Criscione, former SVP of strategy, marketing and business development at Hannaford Supermarkets, takes the role of chief strategy and development officer at Delhaize America.
