Hy-Vee has started construction on a new supermarket in the Prairie Trail planned community in Ankeny, Iowa.
The 92,000-s.f. store, to be located at the northwest corner of Southwest Oralabor Road and Southwest State Street, will be Hy-Vee’s second supermarket in Ankeny.
Andy McCann, SVP of store development for Hy-Vee, says in a news release that the Prairie Trail store has been part of Hy-Vee’s development plans for several years, and the time is now right to proceed with building.
“The Prairie Trail site is a great location for us, and will be especially convenient for residents in the southern and western areas of Ankeny and those commuting here for work or school,” McCann says.
Dennis Albaugh, owner of DRA Properties, the Prairie Trail developer, acknowledged that HyVee’s commitment to Prairie Trail will help attract both commercial and residential activity to the 1,100 acre development.
“A supermarket is a great addition to any neighborhood and we are pleased that HyVee will serve those at Prairie Trail and the surrounding area,” he says. “This new store will be a wonderful addition to the city of Ankeny.”
The new Ankeny Hy-Vee will be similar in size and amenities to the store the company opened in August in Urbandale, and the one currently under construction in Waukee. It will include a full-service restaurant and bar serving wine and beer in the evenings; a food court featuring a sushi bar, wood-fired pizza, Chinese buffet, authentic gelato and Chef’s Creations take-home entrees; a Starbucks coffee outlet; a large HealthMarket offering natural and organic foods; a pharmacy with drive-up service; and specialty departments for wine and spirits, domestic and imported cheeses, bulk foods, fresh seafood, housewares, cosmetics and personal care products, pet supplies and more.
A convenience store and fuel station also will be included as part of the project.
Construction on the project will proceed through the winter months, weather permitting, with an opening planned for late 2013.
