Grand reopening celebrations were held Wednesday for the recently renovated Brookshire’s Food Store located at 807 E. Tyler St. in Athens, Texas.
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held and featured Chamber of Commerce President Mark Rathe, Athens Mayor Jerry Don Vaught and Brookshire Grocery Co. President and CEO Rick Rayford.
Brookshire’s Store Director Charles Beasley presented donation checks totaling $1,000 each to Family Peace Project, The East Texas Crisis Center and Henderson County HELP Center.
The 39,155-s.f. store features a new storefront with a relocated entrance, modern and sleek decor, new check stands and free Wi-Fi. The upgraded bakery department now boasts homemade fudge, freshly made tortillas and a cake decorating station where customers can view in-progress cakes and other bakery creations.
Brookshire’s wine and beer area was expanded to provide customers a wider, more diverse selection of beverages. The store also received an expanded gluten-free section, more organic options and a variety of gourmet items. The produce, market and pharmacy departments also were updated, and the market now offers a full-service fresh seafood counter. The fuel center was upgraded as well and is now providing diesel fuel.
“We have been serving the Athens community for more than 20 years, and we are happy to provide an updated, state-of-the-art shopping experience for our valued customers,” Rayford said. “This enhancement has allowed us to expand our selection and offer many new products and services. We have received many positive comments from our customers, and we look forward to a very successful future here in Athens.”
The grand opening festivities will continue throughout the following weeks with special giveaways and promotions. More special offers will be announced in the weekly grocery ads.
Brookshire Grocery Co., in operation since 1928, operates 154 stores in three states—Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas—with three distribution centers and seven manufacturing facilities.
