Harris Teeter will open its Myers Park Shopping Center store in Charlotte, N.C., at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Harris Teeter publicly announced the possibility of building a new Myers Park Shopping Center store in 2011. In the years since that announcement, the Matthews, N.C.-based grocer’s redevelopment team, its landlord, nearby residents and leaders of the surrounding neighborhoods as well as city officials have continuously worked together to provide for a smooth redevelopment process, and Harris Teeter says it looks forward to the completion of the project.

The company’s goal through this process was to create a new store that would offer its loyal customers the level of shopping experience offered in other locations, while at the same time improving the quality and appearance of the existing shopping center.

According to Richard Bartlett, partner at Bartlett Hartley & Mulkey Architects, the inspiration for the 42,000-s.f. store came from surrounding homes first built in the 1920s.

“Historic details and materials were re-designed with a playful modern touch also utilizing glazed terra cotta roofs from the same company who supplied the area originally,” said Bartlett. “Interiors are reminiscent of grand foyers in neighborhood homes with paneled walls and oil bronze accents throughout. The building reflects the sophistication of the neighborhood fused with the excitement of shopping in a dynamic environment featuring food.”

The store features numerous amenities, including a Starbucks coffee shop as well as seven checkouts and four U-Scan checkouts.

The Myers Park Shopping Center Harris Teeter, located at 1015 Providence Rd., will be open from 6 a.m.-11 p.m., seven days a week.
