WinCo Foods will open its newest supermarket at 8 a.m. Thursday, March 27, in Bakersfield, Calif. The store is the company’s second in Bakersfield and occupies approximately 88,000 s.f. and reflects WinCo’s newer décor package that WinCo says creates a solid, clean feel that highlights products, including the hundreds of new WinCo Foods private label items the company recently introduced. The store is located at 6801 Panama Lane and will initially employ 168 people, 129 of whom are new hires from the community.

The store features WinCo’s traditional “Wall of Values” at the entry. The main sales floor features a large fresh produce department, bulk foods as well as meat, deli, seafood and bakery service departments. The bulk foods department displays more than 900 items, including many natural food products, some organics, snacks, candies, cereals, flours, pastas, spices and more. WinCo says the store also has a more efficient floor plan.

Store Manager James Alexander transfers to the new Bakersfield store from Roseville, Calif., and has been with the company for 12 years. His assistant managers are Michael Pippin and Michael Thompson.

Employee-owned WinCo is based in Boise, Idaho, and currently operates 94 stores and four distribution centers in Washington, Idaho, Nevada, California, Oregon, Arizona, Utah and Texas. WinCo also is in the process of building a new distribution center in Phoenix, Ariz., which will service stores in Arizona, Southern California and southern Nevada.
