Burris Logistics, a specialist in temperature controlled supply chain solutions, has renewed its supply agreement with The Fresh Market, the North Carolina-based specialty grocery retailer with revenues of more than $1.7 billion and stores in 27 states across the U.S.

“When we began to redesign the supply chain process for The Fresh Market in 2007, we operated from one distribution center and handled approximately 1,800 different products,” said Donnie Burris, CEO of Milford, Delaware-based Burris Logistics. “Today, through custom retail distribution, we manage the procurement, inbound logistics, warehousing and transportation services for more than 5,000 products. This includes The Fresh Market’s signature perishable offerings, as well as health and beauty items.”

Since establishing a partnership with Burris, Greensboro-based The Fresh Market has added more than 100 stores and, in turn to meet the chain’s rapid growth, Burris Logistics has added a second distribution center and expanded its dedicated fleet.

“The Fresh Market strives to make everyday eating extraordinary by providing fresh, high-quality products from around the corner, and across the globe,” said Marc Jones, chief merchandising and supply chain officer for The Fresh Market. “As we have grown, Burris Logistics has grown with us—providing extraordinary service every day, while continually lowering our cost of distribution—supporting our goal to become the customer’s favorite place to shop.”

Added Donnie Burris, “With Burris, our clients focus on what they do best, while outsourcing the rest. Our custom distribution solution—unlike the traditional wholesaler model—provides a transparent procurement service. The Fresh Market has full control of the buying process and an understanding of the exact cost of goods. This allows The Fresh Market team to focus on selecting healthy choices and unique offerings that inspire and engage the consumer.”
