Giant/Martin’s Sets Starting Wage At $9 Per Hour, And More…

Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets is setting its starting associate wage at $9 per hour beginning June 15 as part of the company’s commitment to providing competitive wages. Giant/Martin’s also will increase the hourly wage for current associates to a minimum of $9 an hour in June. This change applies to the 197 non-union Giant/Martin’s stores. Approximately 10,000 Giant/Martin’s part-time associates will be impacted by this wage increase. Giant/Martin’s employs 33,000 associates and approximately two-thirds of the associates are currently paid more than $9 per hour…

To celebrate the coming of Earth Day on April 22, Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Jerry Greenfield was a guest speaker at the Stop & Stop in Hingham, Massachusetts, on April 15. The retailer and Ben & Jerry’s teamed up to raise awareness about climate change, environmental stewardship and encouraging customers to use reusable bags and reducing waste. A “First Taste of Summer” Ice Cream social was held at the store.
