Starbucks Opens First Express Unit In New York City, And More…

Starbucks has opened its first-ever New York City express format store at 14 Wall Street. A compact 538-s.f. location was built to ensure customers have a fast, convenient experience. Upon entry, customers are greeted by a Starbucks employee who is able to take orders with a hand-held device. Mobile point of sale positions are placed throughout the unit to help manage wait times. Starbucks plans to open four more express format stores in New York in 2015 as part of this pilot project…

As part of a major turnaround plan, McDonald’s plans to refranchise or sell 3,500 restaurants by the end of 2018 and increase the global franchise percentage from 81 to 90 percent. In other company news, customers in select New York City boroughs can go to Postmates.com to download the Postmates mobile app to order their McDonald’s food for delivery within an hour. The delivery initiative involves 88 select McDonald’s restaurants in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. McDonald’s full menu, except ice cream cones, are available for delivery during the normal operating hours of participating restaurants. Certain restaurants offer delivery 24 hours a day. There is a delivery fee calculated based on the geographic distance traveled by the courier as well as a standard service charge…

Frosty Acres Brands, a national food service marketing and purchasing cooperative for independent distributors, has announced Thompson’s Food Service as the newest member of the cooperative. Founded in 1887 as a protein distributor, Thompson’s Food Service has expanded over the years into a full broadline food service distributor and meats processor. Thompson’s Food Service services restaurants, delis and retail delis in the central Pennsylvania area.
