Starbucks Closing La Boulange Cafes, And More…

Three years after acquiring San Francisco-based La Boulange, Starbucks plans to close all 23 of the bakery cafés, noting that the stores were not “sustainable for the company’s long-term growth.” The stores are closing, but branded La Boulange foods will remain on the menu at Starbucks locations in the U.S. and Canada. Starbucks says the closings won’t change its goal to “grow its food business and deliver an incremental $2 billion in the next five years in the United States.”…

Rita’s Italian Ice plans to open more than 30 stores in the Boston area by 2023. The chain serves frozen treats and is known for its Italian ice and frozen custard…

Blount Fine Foods of Fall River, Massachusetts, a manufacturer of premium, hand-crafted soups, sauces and side dishes for retail and food service, has announced several appointments. Benjamin Quigley has joined the company as Midwest sales manager, and five-year company veteran Matt Yusen has been promoted to Northeast food service business development with responsibility for the New England sales territory. Quigley fills a position created when company veteran John Canale moved to take over Blount’s West Coast sales operation.
