US Foods Names Guberman Chief Merchandising Officer, And More…

US Foods has named Steve Guberman chief merchandising officer, promoting him from his previous position of SVP of merchandising and marketing operations, which he had held since January 2012. Guberman, who has more than 30 years of industry experience, formerly was responsible for the deployment and adoption merchandising and marketing strategies designed to accelerate profitable sales growth…

The Rhode Island Hospitality Association (RIHA) has asked for assistance from restaurants in honoring gift certificates for a closed Rhode Island restaurant, Faial Restaurant in Smithfield. Bob Bacon, RIHA chairman, said the restaurant closed without warning and “hundreds of people were left with gift certificates that they cannot redeem. Although Faial Restaurant is not a member of the Rhode Island  Hospitality Association, when a restaurant closes and leaves consumers in the lurch, it reflects poorly on our entire industry. We are known as an industry that takes care of each other, and that is a true cornerstone of the economy and community.” He asked for restaurant support to accept gift certificates at any amount. One member restaurant has offered to accept the gift certificates at half value; another is offering a percentage off of the total bill, and other creative offers will be considered.
