Rite Aid Sales Rise, New CEO Appointed

Rite Aid’s same-store sales increased 2.4 percent for the four-week period ended July 25 compared to the prior-year period.

July front-end same-store sales increased 0.1 percent. Pharmacy same-store sales increased 3.4 percent. Total drugstore sales for the four-week period increased 2.1 percent to $2.016 billion compared to $1.975 billion for the same period last year. Prescription sales accounted for 69.2 percent of drugstore sales, and third-party prescription sales represented 97.8 percent of pharmacy sales.

Year-to-date same-store sales for the 21-week period ended July 25 increased 2.7 percent over the prior-year period. Front-end same-store sales increased 0.5 percent while pharmacy same-store sales increased 3.7 percent.

In other Rite Aid news, Ken Martindale has been promoted to the newly created position of CEO of Rite Aid stores. Martindale will continue to report to John Standley, Rite Aid Corp.’s chairman and CEO, and will retain his role as president of Rite Aid Corp. Rite Aid Corp. operates nearly 4,600 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia.
