The Vermont Cheese Council (VCC), the organization dedicated to the production and advancement of Vermont cheese, says Vermont took home 46 ribbons from 20 cheesemakers at the recent 32nd annual American Cheese Society competition in Providence, Rhode Island. Notable awards include a third place Best In Show designation for Cellars at Jasper Hill’s (Greensboro) Harbison, and ribbons by new VCC members Fairy Tale Farm Cheese (Bridport) and Sweet Rowen Farmstead (West Glover)…
The Vermont Retail & Grocers Association (VRGA) will host a free security breach and credit card security seminar Aug. 13 beginning at 1 p.m. at the VRGA offices at 148 State Street in Montpelier. According to the VRGA, retail stores that accept credit cards will face increased liability beginning Oct. 1 if they have not updated their credit card processing systems. “The potential liability that a retailer will be exposed to without the upgrade to chip and PIN terminals on Oct. 1 will be tremendous,” said Andrew Brewer of Onion River Sports in Montpelier…
After its recent launch of the SnapDragon and RubyFrost apple varieties, New York Apple Growers (NYAG) has changed its name to Crunch Time Apple Growers. The organization is comprised of 145 grower members who are united with the mission of introducing exclusive, flavorful apple varieties to the marketplace. “The success and interest of these new apples has gotten a lot of attention and retailers were confusing us with other similarly named organizations such as New York Apple Sales and New York Apple Association, so we felt it was time to make a change,” said Mark Russell, chair of Crunch Time’s marketing committee…
