Hearing Postponed On A&P Union Dispute, And More…

A bankruptcy court hearing originally scheduled for the week of Aug. 17 between A&P officials and union leaders was put on hold as both sides asked for more time. A&P filed an emergency motion seeking relief from “bumping” obligations in its contract and A&P is seeking to limit its severance obligations to employees. All A&P stores are up for sale. Several locals of the United Food and Commercial Workers, which represent A&P workers, oppose both of these requests…

The Massachusetts Food Association (MFA) has announced that its keynote speaker for its annual meeting Oct. 28 at Lombardo’s of Randolph is Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker. The MFA also announced that its Hall of Fame inductees are Bob Hogan (posthumously) and Jack and Kevin Kavanaugh. Additionally, Roche Bros. will be presented the MFA Community Service Award…

On Sept. 30, the New Jersey Food Council Committee for Good Government will honor four policy leaders at the 42nd Annual Good Government Breakfast at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township, New Jersey. This year’s honorees include Richard Saker of Saker ShopRites; Deputy Director Howard Pine, New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs; Sen. Christopher Bateman; and Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer. The Good Government Breakfast is an opportunity for leaders from New Jersey supermarkets, convenience stores and food companies to break bread with government officials, policy makers and legislators and discuss the issues that affect the food retail industry.
