AG New England Promotes Violette To EVP/COO, And More…

Mike Violette has been promoted to EVP and COO at Associated Grocers of New England, effective Oct. 4. AG New England CEO Mike Bourgoine said Violette has been with the company for the past 17 years, most recently as SVP of sales and retail development, where he has been instrumental in helping AG achieve its continuous sales growth. He added that Violette is well-respected throughout the food industry in the Northeast for his 35 years in the business, where he has had experience at retail, wholesale and in serving on the board of directors for the Vermont Grocers Association, the Maine Grocers Association and the Retailer Owned Research Corp. Violette also has served on the convention committee of the Massachusetts Food Association for the past couple of years…

Aldi has removed certified synthetic colors, removed partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) and removed added MSG from all of its exclusive brand food products. The announcement is part of the company’s efforts to expand store offerings and address customers’ preferences and needs about particular ingredients in their food. Ninety percent of Aldi products are sold under private labels. The company began removing these ingredients in 2014, and customers will begin to see these products in stores this fall, with all reformulated product lines in stores by the end of 2015…

All Big Y Supermarkets will donate proceeds in October from various departments throughout the store to more than 23 local breast cancer support groups throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. Since 2007, the chain has raised more than $1.32 million dollars for this cause and, last year, raised $222,386.
