Numerous media outlets are reporting that Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) is exploring a sale of its more than 150 stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.
The sale of the East Texas-based chain could value Brookshire’s at as much as $1 billion, including debt, according to one report.
Representatives for the company reportedly told local news station KLTV on Wednesday that they could not comment at this time and said they could not confirm nor deny reports of a sale. Reports indicate that the notion of a sale has attracted the attention of companies like Albertsons.
BGC operates stores under the Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and Fresh by Brookshire’s banners. It has remodeled a number of stores of late.
