FDA Authorizes Marketing Of New Tobacco Products, And More…

The FDA, for the first time, has authorized the marketing of new tobacco products through the premarket tobacco application pathway. This action permits the tobacco products to be sold in the U.S., but does not mean that they are safe or “FDA approved.” Manufacturers must demonstrate to the agency, among other things, that marketing of the new tobacco product would be appropriate for the protection of the public health. That standard requires the FDA to consider the risks and benefits to the population as a whole, including users and non-users of tobacco products. The most recent marketing orders are for eight Swedish Match North America Inc. snus smokeless tobacco products under the General brand name. The law also says companies cannot say or imply that their products are “FDA approved,” and a company must apply for—and receive—a separate modified risk tobacco product authorization in order to market a product with claims of reduced exposure or reduced risk…

Randolph Automotive Servicenter, a third-generation, 50-plus-year-old family owned business, has officially opened the doors to its new convenience store and gasoline station in Randolph, Massachusetts. The new facility houses an expanded convenience store presence, including a Dunkin’ Donuts with drive-thru capabilities. The new center opened recently; the two-story, 3,740-s.f. structure houses six repair bays for Randolph Automotive’s regular and commercial fleet repair customers on its first level. The second story will be used for office and administrative space. Randolph Automotive Servicenter offers automotive repairs to both retail and fleet customers, gasoline sales and operates a convenience store…

The Hershey Co. says that Holiday Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolates and Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bars, made with simple ingredients and no artificial flavors, will launch nationwide this holiday season. Holiday Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolates packages also are the first to pilot the SmartLabel. With this new mobile tool a consumer can scan a QR code to instantly get detailed product information, from ingredient and nutrition facts to allergens.
