E. Coli Outbreak Extends To Six States, And More…

The Centers of Disease Control (CDC) says that three additional states have reported people infected with the E. coli. As of Nov. 20, 45 people infected with the outbreak strain had been reported from six states: California and Minnesota (two each), New York and Ohio (one each), Oregon (13) and Washington (26). According to the CDC, the epidemiologic evidence available at this time suggests that a common meal item or ingredient served at Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants in several states is a likely source of the outbreak. Boston Market has achieved a nearly 100 percent increase in Thanksgiving sales over the past five years. According to an annual holiday survey from Boston Market, the trend of using prepared foods in Thanksgiving meals continues to increase—with nearly half of all consumers planning to use prepared foods this holiday season. The survey also found that, while 86 percent of consumers enjoy the overall meal experience, the two greatest pain points are shopping for the meal and cleaning up afterward.
