Nestlé Announces Support For Lower Sodium Targets, And More…

Last week Nestlé announced further sodium reduction efforts and reaffirmed its commitment to help consumers reduce their dietary intake. Nestlé is committed to helping people consume no more than 2,000 milligrams of sodium per day, a target that is lower than the current U.S. Dietary Guidelines recommendation of 2,300 milligrams per day. Nestlé will increase the number of foods and beverages that could reasonably fit into a dietary pattern that contains less than 2,000 milligrams of sodium per day. Currently 43 percent of Nestlé’s foods meet this target. Nestlé supports the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s efforts to release draft voluntary sodium reduction targets…

Treehouse Foods last week recalled several products that may be impacted by sunflower seeds contaminated with Listeria. The products were distributed nationally through retail stores. As of May 4, no illnesses had been reported, but TreeHouse initiated the voluntary recall as a precaution…

Lee Delaney has been appointed EVP and chief growth officer at BJ’s Wholesale Club. Delaney will be responsible for the company’s merchandising and supply chain organization. Prior to joining BJ’s, Delaney was a partner in the Boston office of Bain & Co., and a leader in the firm’s consumer products practice. While at Bain, Delaney advised clients on corporate strategy, created new market entry plans, supported client acquisitions and advised on large cost reduction programs. Prior to joining Bain in 1996, Delaney worked for Electronic Data Systems and Deloitte Consulting, advising clients on a variety of engagements.
