IGA retailer Milam’s Markets will open a new store in the Village of Pinecrest in the Miami-Dade community. The company announced the plans on its social media pages on April 20.

The store at 11701 S. Dixie Highway in the Pinecrest Plaza is expected to open in summer 2018. Additional details were unavailable at the time of this report.

Founded by Allen Milam and his father, Thomas, the company’s first store opened in 1984 on Bird Road in Miami and operated under the Piggly Wiggly banner.

In 1989, the store was rebranded to the family name, Milam’s Market, and in the coming years several of Allen’s siblings joined the company. With growing family involvement, additional stores were opened: in Miami Springs in 1997, Coconut Grove in 1999 and Sunny Isles in 2001—bringing the total number of stores to four.

All of the Milam’s Markets locations have been recognized by IGA as a Five Star Retailer.
