Big Y Foods Inc., headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts, has appointed Colin M. D’Amour as a senior manager of procurement within Big Y’s Real Estate and Development team.

In this role, D’Amour is responsible for managing all aspects of purchasing and equipment buying for the company’s 80 plus locations. As part of the real estate committee, he is involved in evaluating viable expansion opportunities across all operating formats including Big Y World Class Markets, Fresh Acres, Table & Vine and Big Y Express divisions. He is also project manager for the expansion of Big Y’s distribution center current expansion project. In addition, he oversees multiple programs and initiatives with Topco Associates, a Chicago-based member owned company that provides aggregation, innovation and knowledge management solutions for its food industry member-owners. He reports to Mathieu D’Amour, VP of real estate store development.

D’Amour began working as a service clerk at Big Y supermarkets in 1998 at the age of 14. From there, he held several positions including produce clerk, warehouse selector, construction/remodel store projects coordinator and completed Big Y’s Supermarket 101 training program.

In 2007, D’Amour accepted a commission with the U.S. Marine Corps as a second lieutenant where he served with distinction, ultimately earning the rank of captain. In 2010, he was deployed to Helmand, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While serving in the U.S Marine Corps, he was both a purchasing officer and a construction manager in support of the Afghan National Security Forces throughout his area of operations. He was actively involved with project prioritization, scope identification, project bidding and evaluation.

In 2014, he left active duty in the Marines, and he returned to Big Y entering the store director training program and was appointed assistant store director in their Great Barrington, Massachusetts, store a year later. By 2016, he was promoted to store director in Pittsfield and later to Lee in the same role before being selected for his most recent position last year as a corporate center store sales manager.

Big Y Foods is an independently owned supermarket chain in New England that operates 80 locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut including 70 supermarkets, Fresh Acres Market, Table & Vine Fine Wines and Liquors and 9 Big Y Express gas and convenience locations with more than 11,000 employees.
